What to expect
Stop 1 · 1h 30min
Step into the world of sumo, Japan's national sport, and watch real sumo wrestlers in action from just a few meters away. Your English-speaking host opens the show with an introduction to sumo's 1,500-year history: its roots in Shinto ritual, the meaning behind the salt throwing and stomping, how wrestlers train and live, and what it takes to rise through the ranks. Then the wrestlers take the ring for live demonstration bouts, showing the techniques, power and speed that decide a match in seconds. Want to feel it for yourself? A few guests are chosen to step into the ring and take on a sumo wrestler. It's one of the most memorable moments of the night, whether you're wrestling or cheering. The show ends with a photo session where every group can take pictures with the wrestlers. You'll also get a complimentary drink on arrival. The show runs about 70 minutes in an intimate venue in central Kyoto, perfect for families and anyone curious about Japanese culture.
